Meet the mean and green mangrove tree. This colossal invasive tree can over take just about anything. It can grow up to 30 or more feet tall, and this is the plant we had to take down at MCBH Kaneohe Bay. It was up to team Vitamin C to save the endangered birds of Hawaii's wetlands with this monster of a plant in the way...and so we did.
Mangrove was a difficult one. The roots of every where. Just getting to the trees was a journey in itself. There was bug infested stagnant water that smelt like boiling sewage and oceans of pickle weed. Regardless of the harsh condition our team did it and did it well. Everyone was fully concentrated on one thing...MANGROVE. We took that thing down for hours. Sweat, sunburn, and smiles. Although the days work was hard, we enjoyed the challenge. Which is why i think our team did so well with this plant, anything else would have bored us. And boredom tends to get us into trouble.
Week 2 done. Bring on week 3!
